The
Relationship Between Self Improvement And Success
There is a divine purpose behind everything that happens with
us. Sometimes, there is a chain of events that happens, but
you can be sure that this chain of events is not without a
purpose. When things happen with alarming frequency, it is not
worth cooping up yourself in your own fears, or thinking about
unflattering past performances, but try to learn from them and
improve yourself with each passing minute.
For those of you who have watched Patch Adams, this idea of
self-improvement will be very simple to understand. Hunter
Adams (admirably played by Robin Williams) is a student of
medicine who is not able to clear his exams. And that leads
his life to go on a downslide, replete with problems such as
depression, frustrations and even tendencies of suicide. In
order to cope with his problems, he seeks help. He gets
himself enrolled in the mental ward of a healthcare
institution. This is where he meets a new lease of life. He
understands that there are many people with different kinds of
mental problems. He gets revived with this thought. He is not
alone. He makes attempt at improving himself – finds out ways
of treating his own mental shortcoming. And he succeeds. When
he does so, he still has the desire to become a doctor. He has
a diehard optimism that just won't do away. He improves his
own self, and also sets out to improve the quality of the
other people around him. And he becomes a doctor too!
Patch Adams improved his own self and also succeeded. Where do
we make the relation then? There has to be a starting point.
Let these thoughts guide you:-
Never harbor disillusions about yourself. You are not a
failure. First learn to love yourself; only then will other
people try and do the same.
Do not be dejected when you see the models strutting their
stuff on television. Do not fall into the trap of pitying
yourself saying that you cannot be like them. Instead, make a
decision of improving yourself. This need not be enhancing
physical beauty. Even if you try and enhance your talents, you
are taking an important step towards self-improvement.
Try to encourage other people when they are feeling down. Do
not give them company in their depression; you will be
depressed too. Instead, try to cheer them up.
Try to learn lessons from your life. Even if you make
mistakes, do not worry too much about it, learn how you can
improve. Remember that if you have failed, it is all the more
reason that you should succeed the next time.
Do not want too much in too little time. If you are thinking
of improving yourself, do not take too much of a chunk at
once. You cannot just become great and happening overnight. It
will take time. Self-improvement is a very slow and arduous
process.
Self-improvement must make you happy about yourself. It must
bring about a development of your personality. And, most
important, it must bring success. This comes when you are
appreciative of yourself and have a fair measure of
self-esteem.
Always keep setting achievable goals for yourself. Do not try
to imitate others, because you can't and you shouldn't.
Instead of thinking of modeling your life on how other's live,
try to just improvise on what you already are.
The small things that you can do sometimes make big
differences in the lives of other people. Just a 'hello' could
brighten up someone's day. And if you add the name of the
person to the 'hello', it surely becomes so personal and so
sweet. When you are warmhearted with people, you suddenly
become more beautiful in their eyes. And they see an improved
version of you.
Also, make constant changes in your life. This is an essential
step of self-improvement. There are different kinds of people
in this world. Do not hope too much from people, even from
your best buddies. Most times, you will have to walk the path
of self-improvement alone. And it is indeed better that way.
Success does not happen just by snapping your fingers. There
are many things that go into bringing it about. You will have
to cherish the qualities you already have, but you will have
to keep on improving them until that very-elusive success
happens. If you are ready, success might just as well come to
visit you. That is what life is all about. We learn, we
improve. People help us on this path. And the improvement
brings about success when we are all ready and set.
