Ten Surefire
Methods To Be A Communications Whiz
"A Piece of Blarney Stone" 10 ways to empower your
communication
Each and every one of us wants to add to our charisma. Success
is all about impressing the right kind of people and what
better way to do it than speaking with them in the right way?
And there is no magic formula that can make you a great one at
communications overnight! You have to put in your efforts.
Conversation is something that no one can know everything
about. You can of course try to learn by looking at the
infinite personality development shows on the television and
emceed programs, listening to the way people talk all around
you, joining public speaking clubs and through your normal day
to day interactions with people. This is not as difficult as
it seems. Once you become observant enough, you start picking
up things. Your basic education comes from how you yourself
want to be treated by other people around you. Here are some
tips to become an expert conversationalist.
Learn from what you already know
The most important source of your knowledge is your own
personality. Observe other people. This is your inherent
knowledge. Practice it and make it perfect. Each time you
attend a wedding see how the toastmaster conducts himself.
That becomes a great part of your education.
Always lend your ear to others
Heeding to what you observe in others is very important, or
your knowledge is a waste. Your own voice can teach you
things. When you hear yourself speak in public, you feel the
confidence rising in you. And confidence brings in belief.
Be humble about your learning process
While you are learning, you are sure to make some mistakes.
You might embarrassingly mispronounce words in public, or you
might be asked a question in which you do not know what the
words mean. Do not hesitate to confess your limited knowledge
and ask about the meaning of things. Even if people laugh at
you, they will forget about it the next day. But the knowledge
you will have gained from it will be everlasting with you.
Learn how to make eye contact
One of the most important teachings of public speaking is that
you should always hold the listener's attention by making
proper eye contact. When you look at people directly,
everything that you say becomes personal to them. It also
helps you to concentrate on what you are saying, because
looking at your listener directly helps you to keep your mind
free from other thoughts.
Be a little funny
No public speaking can be effective without a dash of humor to
it. It is necessary to flirt around with the words a little so
as to keep the boredom away from what you are saying. This
works wonders when you have to persuade people into doing
something. Humor makes you more human too. People who are
speaking with you will realize they can discuss things with
you.
Try to blend in with your audience
One of the most important tricks to make a successful speech
is to think in the way your audience is thinking. Interact
with the people you are speaking with. That will surely give
you more things to talk about.
Practice solo
If you are learning to be an effective crowd puller, then you
must certainly practice. Try speaking out in front of a
mirror. This is a very important way of self-improvement. You
can learn things about the modality, tone and pitch of your
voice. You can even record your voice and listen to it.
Listening in this manner, you will find several areas where
you must improve your voice.
Always show the pearly whites
Make sure that you smile at the right places when you are
speaking. If you are cheerful about what you speak, chances
are that it will be infectious to your audience also. Do not
strain your brow when speaking – it will put your listeners
off.
Think about your role model
Has anyone's speaking ever captivated you? Not the television
personalities, but there must be someone in real life who has
managed to hold your attention by his or her speech. If you
have such a role model, try to emulate their style. When
listening to them speaking, keep thinking of ways in which you
can incorporate their style in your way of speaking and
improve your own speeches.
Always be prepared before speaking
Preparing for a speech does not just mean making some notes
for your ready reference. In fact, it looks quite a sham to
catch the speaker glimpsing into a card when in the middle of
a speech. Try to acquaint yourself fully with the topic you
are speaking on. That will always give you a leeway to speak
at a tangent in case you have forgotten your initial
preparation. But please do not take those cards out when you
are speaking to persuade people.
These are ten points to make short shrift of public speaking
for you, but you must certainly be on the move when it comes
to learning new methods. Try to see what methods other people
are speaking in, whether it is in public or in private, and
try to embellish your own speeches with the better points
taken from them.
