Self Esteem – 6
Key Success Boosters
Everyone must have self-esteem. It is integral to their sense
of fulfillment and contentment from their lives. But what does
self-esteem mean? Simply put, it means feeling appreciative of
yourself. When you think of yourself as an important entity in
the scheme of things, you have self-esteem. This is a vital
part of the image you build of yourself, and of the faith you
have in yourself as a person.
Your image of your own self will be a very important judging
parameter for your thoughts and actions. It will influence the
way you feel and behave towards others. Your productivity will
depend on it in large measure. But if you have low esteem,
then you will be negativist and defeatist in everything that
you do. You will perceive yourself as a failure, and it
wouldn't be long before others observe you like that too. With
a high self-esteem though, you will be considered a breezy
person to be with, full of hope and a zeal of life. At the
same time, it must be said that it is very important to
override a person's concept of his or her own self-esteem.
Every person sculpts this image by themselves.
There are some indications for having a high sense of
self-esteem. If you know what is prior in your life, if you
are not judgmental of yourself even in failure, if you are an
optimist rather than a diehard cynic, if you can keep
sentiments away from the normal occurrences of life, if you
can think about things in retrospect especially when they go
wrong, if you are happy with your life in general, if you have
an aptitude for clear thought, if you know where your life is
leading, if you are aware of your self-worth, then you have
high self-esteem.
How, then, do you cultivate this high self-esteem in yourself?
The first step towards it is to accept yourself as you are,
and then try to eradicate all the factors that have caused
your esteem to plummet to seemingly irretrievable depths.
Some pointers for increasing your self-esteem follow:-
1.
Do not run away from any portion of your life, whether it is
your past or your present. Acknowledge both your limitations
and your potential strengths. Do not judge yourself too
harshly, even though you have been at fault. It is normal,
happens with everyone.
2.
Acknowledge yourself for what you are. Your positive and
negative points are your own; learn to live with them. It is
foolish to pretend to be someone else. Accept that you are
you, with your own fingerprints, your own identity and you are
in this world to accomplish something. You are unique, and
there is no one else like you. Even if you have a twin, he or
she is not like you. As such, you are an important piece in
the jigsaw puzzle of this universe.
3.
Always bear your merits and achievements in mind. These are
the successes that are yours for keeps. It is quite unwise to
be modest about your achievements, howsoever much small they
might be. Successes happen because of prior thinking, not
because of luck. That is why you should give enough weight to
what you have achieved. And also bear in mind that one success
in your life means that you are worthy of more successes too.
4.
Make sure you sit and ponder about what the objectives in your
life are. Your life is your own, do not judge it with the
lives of others – do not set your life for other's sake
either. You might do things that your parents, your teachers
or your friends might want, but then you must also do what you
really want for yourself. Contemplate on this and when you
find the answers, you will be well on your way to achieving
those objectives.
5.
Always be assertive. Boost your winning self-confidence in
your mind, and when you succeed, reiterate them. Make notes to
remind yourself of what your objectives in life are. Think
about them – visualize them. This will etch those purposes in
your subconscious self. Always reassure yourself that you are
loved by people that you love yourself, and you love the life
you are living. Reassure yourself that you can make other
people happy, that you can bring success in your own life and
that you can built a very optimistic image of yourself for
others to follow.
6.
Then, you need to prepare yourself for the glory that is bound
to follow. This is where goal-setting becomes important. Make
small goals at first and achieve them. When you get your
success, make sure you enjoy it. Pat yourself on your back.
This keeps your confidence running.
When you set out to bolster your self-esteem, it is never too
late to begin, and it is never early enough either. You need
to make a start right about now, if you haven't done so
already.Source:
